Nicanor De Elia

Born in 1976 in Argentina, Nicanor de Elia is a dancer, circus artist, choreographer and director. In 2003, he joined l’ESACTO-LIDO, Toulouse’s professional circus school, specializing in juggling and dance. In 2006, Nicanor and four other jugglers founded G. Bistaki, a contemporary circus/dance company, In 2009, they presented «Coopératzia», a first show based on the choreographic manipulation of objects. It is performed to this day in some of the biggest international festivals. In 2010 he founded Garage29, a performing arts lab space in Brussels. With Garage29 create several artistics productions and the «Offestival». In 2015 he started to develop the «COPYLEFT» technique, mixing groups and personal ways of moving. Creating two shows «COPYLEFT» and «JUVENTUD» inspired by F.T. Marinetti’s Manifesto of Futurism. The last 15 years Nicanor has been invited as a teacher and artistic director in different schools and artistic centers all around Europe (ESACTO’LIDO, LOMME, ESAC, CODARTS, FONTYS).

Masterclass Copyleft

This masterclass is a space for research and study for jugglers, dancers and acrobats based on the principles of copyleft and improvisation in groups. It will be for each participant to allow himself to use and distribute as many modified versions of styles, techniques, knowledge and findings. It will be about making creation and knowledge a common good. This Masterclass is an intense and immersive moment where the body is at the center of the work: the body in relation to space, to objects to others. An internship in the circus and dance boundaries whose goal is to find the dance / juggling / acrobatics that belong to you, create a space to develop individual concerns and relationship to the group.
