[re]framing – Playing with meaning and experience with Darragh McLoughlin

In this workshop through a series of improvisation and devising exercises Darragh will teach the participants how to see their circus/movement practice as something that can have many different meanings, or colours, depending on in which frame it is presented.

The workshop is aimed for those who wish to put their practice on stage, or present it through various different artistic mediums. Participants should dress in comfortable clothes to move in, and bring all of their tools with them. This workshop is not genre specific so there are no limits as to what one can bring.

When different ingredients are combined, exciting new taste experiences can emerge. In an art context, this can be seen by discovering surprising pairings of movements, tricks, sounds, words etc. When I grew up salt and chocolate wasn’t a thing as it seemed counter intuitive to pair those two ingredients together, but now it is a staple on any sweet shelf in a supermarket. Often it is the least likely of pairings that create the most memorable flavours. – Darragh McLoughlin

About Darragh McLoughlin

Born in 1987 in Ireland as youngest of three siblings and son of two professional chefs. In 2006 he moved to Berlin to attend the Jonglier Katakomben School of Juggling. In 2008 attended the Academy for Circus and Performance Art and completed his education with a bachelor degree in Circus Arts.

In 2014 was selected as a Circus Next laureate with ‘Fragments of a Mind’, and has since created several acclaimed works: ‘The Whistle’, ‘Stickman’ and ‘For as Long As We’re Here’. Besides his performance work he has created conceptual artwork series: ‘Stories of Falling Objects’ and ‘WATCHERS’. 

Darragh teaches at different professional institutions around Europe: FLIC , ACAPA, Die Etage, CODARTS and Les Beaux Arts.
